About Ahlam Lemseffer
The ideal environment where art flourishes is a mindscape attended by painting, where, color and texture conjure up forms and shapes whose vitality is revealed by light. The result goes on to present an ongoing dialogue between the artist and the world, between history and destiny, between human reality and what is ultimately real.
Ahlam has transversed many peaks and valleys of that conscious environment seeking for the light which illuminates the context of the materials as color and of color as a likely vehicle of fresh expression with meaning.
However, meaning being the spirit of the dialogue and dialogue itself the substance of the enriched understanding of the world, of humanity’s ever evolving cultural context, of the needs and wants of civilization, of the environmental requisites of the planet in our mutual quest for life.
It follows then, that Ahlam’s new work is confident of her control of material and subject matter, her artistic maturity now gives her the freedom to expand her art into the concerns of life. The light that she has pursued, has taken her to an enlightenment of new possibilities which happily coincide with the concerns of the world and our need for answers.
It may be that her work, is evidence of our own transitional journey to an aesthetic of life that suggest a different world, a world, where the shades of color and its absence as black and white are part of a landscape where diversity is the joy of natural and human creativity. A different world where peace may finally occupy a place on Earth which like Ahlam’s paintings, we can build together one layer at a time and celebrate its construction indefinitely.

Decorated by the French Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters in 2008, Ahlam is continuously deepening her working techniques, she is steadily questioning and wondering . Her painting remains concerned about the problem of light, either cold or warm . This endless quest gives her work its unity.
Twenty years ago, she was in shades of ocre, then she has gradually brought the power of colour flow in her work.
The period of red arises from a palpable force. We are caught by the power of pieces presented to us. we feel like a perfume of eternity in her work. We might be able to live a whole life in front of one of Ahlam’s paintings and be transported into a spiritual world.
In quest to conquer space, Ahlam prefers large formats and gives free sensitivity to her energy, offering her paintings compositions, rich in contents, drips and splashes.
Her formats grow increasingly reaching the surrounding area, as telling a lifetime.
In front of the whiteness of a canva, Ahlam engages in a struggle that she never considers as being ever over, and which may never end.
Ahlam plays with colour in such an agreement that it seems difficult to know which of the two commands the other.
In order not to lose the flashover and the current glow of her paintings in a spectacular gratuity, it was essential to control, dominate and bring order which gives meaning to disorder and excess.
In her studio, piles of paintings remain on hold indefinitely, because they have not told their story yet.
Ahlam is never quite sure , satisfied or confident in what she undertakes . She seeks , seeks and seeks endlessly and tirelessly . Searching for this light which leads to peace.
